Aid for Friends

Aid for Friends is a nonprofit, nondenominational, all volunteer organization which provides free meals daily to frail, sick and /or elderly home bound people who can not prepare meals for themselves.  Meals are made by volunteers who prepare meals in their own homes and then freeze them immediately.  Frozen meals are then brought to the church freezer.  Visitors take the meals from our freezer and visit the client/friend about once a week.

We are fortunate to have a freezer located in the narthex of our church.  Saint Alphonsus parish has been involved in this program for more than 20 years.  At this time, we provide meals for eight clients and are fortunate to have six visitors who deliver the meals from our freezer to their clients.  This means we are in need of 56 meals a week.

There is always a need for cooks.  We ask volunteers to cook one or two extra servings each week while preparing dinner for their families.  Meals are frozen in aluminum trays provided by Aid for Friends and brought to our freezer.  You are able to access the freezer any time the church is open.  Volunteers can pick up trays on the top of the freezer in the narthex.

For more information call Betty Ann Voss 215-491-1050 or Dolores Loftus 215-646-8434.

PRECEDURE TO FOLLOW WHEN PREPARING A MEAL

1.      Place the hot cooked food in the 3 compartment tray, which we provide (fish, meat, etc and 2 vegetables).

2.      Seal the tray of food with aluminum foil to prevent freezer burn.

3.      Place bread, cake or cookies in plastic wrap or a bag on top of the foil.

4.      Fill out the label provided with the trays—date and record all contents.

5.      Place the tray in the plastic bag and seal the bag with a twist tie.

6.      The meal should be frozen immediately.

7.      Bring the frozen meal to our freezer in the room behind the kitchen.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO FAITHFULLY SUPPORT OUR CLIENTS
