The Art Program @ St. A's

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." -Pablo Picasso

Led by Robin Schmidt, The Saint Alphonsus Art Program excels in bringing the joy of knowledge and expression that comes through Art.

The Art Education program emphasizes three content areas which are explored throughout the year:

CREATING ART
UNDERSTANDING ART AND ARTISTS
VALUING ART

Current Activities

Exploration of these components provides a varied art experience, hands-on experiences, exposure to art and artists, and experience with the critical process of interpreting and evaluating artwork.

PROGRAM GOALS:
To develop aesthetic sensitivity, and creative potential.
To develop the students perceptual abilities through varied art activities.
To increase awareness of the world around them.
To foster abilities to depict, describe, and express.
To acquaint students with the role of art in our culture.
To familiarize the student with materials, processes, and products.

HOW ADULTS CAN HELP:
Ask questions and start a dialogue with your child about what happened in art class.
Have discussions about your child's art work. Don't evaluate creative work by how it looks. Growth cannot be measured by tastes or standards of beauty important to an adult.
Display their artwork in a prominent place in the home.
Expose your child to art - go to museums, galleries, libraries, look at books about art.
Make art materials available for you child to use at home.
Please provide a smock for art class.
